Shapiro & Mack was formed in January, 2005, when Jason A. Shapiro and Paul E. Mack, two partners in a 50 member Maryland law firm decided to start their own boutique litigation firm so that they can provide better service to their clients. Mr. Shapiro had been Chief of the Criminal Defense Department of that law firm and Mr. Mack had been his junior partner. Previously to working in that law firm, Mr. Shapiro operated a Columbia law firm with another partner. That partner is now sitting on the bench in the Circuit Court for Howard County, Sitting as a Juvenile Court. Prior to that time, Mr. Shapiro served in two different prosecutor offices in the State of Maryland. It was in those prosecutor offices that Mr. Shapiro learned to become a top-notch trial attorney. Mr. Shapiro handled a myriad of cases, from disorderly conduct to death penalty murder cases. He has been to, as both student and teacher, an array of trial schools, such as "Jury Trial School," "DUI/DWI Trials," "Using Demonstrative and Physical Evidence," and the like. Mr. Shapiro concluded his career as a prosecutor as an award winning Assistant States Attorney in the Howard County State's Attorney's Office.
Before serving as Mr. Shapiro's junior partner in the Criminal Defense Department of the large law firm, Mr. Mack garnered a reputation as a crack Civil litigator handling Plaintiff Personal Injury matters, Bankruptcy and Collection cases.
Both gentlemen have been actively involved in community affairs in or about the State of Maryland. Mr. Shapiro served as a little league coach for football, soccer and basketball, as well as Sunday school teacher and mock trial team advisor to a local high school. Mr. Mack has also been involved in community associations with his church, as well as the Maryland Homeless Representation Project.
In January 2006, Jason Shapiro and Paul Mack expanded their partnership with the addition of David Zwanetz, Esquire. Mr. Zwanetz is a graduate of Widener University School of Law in Wilmington, Delaware where he focused heavily on the areas of Criminal and Constitutional Law. Prior to joining Shapiro & Mack, Mr. Zwanetz worked in Wilmington, Delaware, with the Delaware Volunteer Legal Services providing pro-bono legal representation to victims of domestic violence. After returning to his home town of Columbia, Maryland, and immediately before signing on with Shapiro & Mack, P.A., Mr. Zwanetz completed a brief internship with the Howard County States Attorney's office. Mr. Zwanetz continues to focus on Fourth Amendment defense and constantly strives to provide compassionate and zealous representation.
